About Kayanoya Restaurant

About Kayanoya

Kayanoya Restaurant is in Fukuoka, where it overlooks a wilderness home to dancing fireflies.
We offer cuisine made from fresh and carefully-selected seasonal ingredients.

Explore photos of the four seasons.

What can be done for the future of food?

What can be done for the future of food?

What can we do for the future of food? The Kayanoya Restaurant began with those questions. That line of thought met with the "slow food" movement of the time. "Protect local cuisine." "Support the growers." "Help children develop their palates." For the future of food, we cultivated our own land, sought out the best growers of our hometowns, and started a restaurant.

The four seasons bring an abundance of ingredients.

The four seasons bring an abundance of ingredients.

The food at Kayanoya Restaurant spans the divide between Japanese and Western cuisines, offering the taste of the season above all else. We use different ingredients each month, for both appetizers or entrees.

Local food wisdom.

Local food wisdom.

At Kayanoya we have a special menu you won't see at normal restaurants. We call it "Granny Nagano's Treasures." She taught us the traditional dishes, and we use the abundance of the seasons to make them. We consider passing on this wisdom to be a vital duty to posterity.

A place to pass on the techniques of craftsmen.

A place to pass on the techniques of craftsmen.

Our thatched roof is made from 80 tons of grass. There was a time when everyone in Kyushu had a craftsman make them a thatched roof like this. We want to preserve the arts of not only roof thatchers, but also of firefly cage makers and other craftsmen.

We let things go at a slower pace.

We let things go at a slower pace.

As the moon rises in the quiet night sky, the music of the night begins. When the time is right, at Kayanoya, we have "slow night" events to admire the moon. We hope that with the addition of food we may have an enjoyable time.

Multi-Course Meals

Multi-course meals to bring joy to your body.

The chef carefully brings out the flavors of each ingredient and brings them to you in a succession of courses.
We make seasonal local ingredients central to dishes like the rich and nutritious "Ten-grain Stew."
We adapt each course to the individual customer's order, so select the course you prefer.

Next to the restaurant we have a small thatch-roofed Rakuya, perfect for celebrating birthdays, alumni meetings, and other milestones of life. It can accommodate groups of up to 30.

Tea Room

The tea room is a terrace cafe space within the Kayanoya.

Hours: 11:00 a.m.-9:30 p.m. (Last order at 9:00 p.m.)

Menu

In addition to seasonal desserts and drinks, we offer light meal.

Tea-Style Coffee

¥770 (tax incl.)

Made from rare Costa Rican beans, roasted using high-grade charcoal from Tsushima, and prepared using a quiet drip technique. This high roast has a striking aroma and a bright flavor.

Kaho Beef Stew

¥2,500 (tax incl.)

We make our beef stew by simmering Kaho beef, which has been marinated in homemade shio-koji (salted rice malt) and carefully grilled, in bonito soup stock with a tomato base. This beef stew is an exquisite balance between the saltiness of shio-koji and the sweetness of miso added during preparation.
